An Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighter has surrendered to Nigerian Army troops in Borno State, alongside his wife and son after reportedly escaping from a terrorist enclave.
The fighter surrendered at about 6:30am. on October 16, 2026, to troops of the 202 Battalion ahead of the Bravo Kilo 16 location in Bama Local Government Area.
According to Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, preliminary investigations indicated the fighter had escaped from an ISWAP enclave in Zarmari Village, around Bula Daloye in Bama.
The fighter reportedly attributed his decision to surrender to “internal conflicts within the terrorist group and logistical difficulties” linked to ongoing military operations.
Troops recovered a pump-action gun, two cartridges and a mobile phone from him.
The fighter, his wife and son are in military custody alongside the recovered items for further investigation.
