The ministry’s spokesman, Esmaeil Baqaei, made the remarks on Monday during his weekly press briefing, dismissing the significance of who emerges from the polls.
“It makes no difference to us who, in these elections, takes the helm of a regime that has brought nothing but violence and massacres to our region,” Baqaei said.
The Israeli legislative elections, scheduled for Tuesday, are taking place amid rising threats by Israel and the United States to launch fresh attacks on Iran, following the war they initiated in late February.
Netanyahu has repeatedly argued in recent days that removing the threat from Iran requires the overthrow of its government.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 14 on Sunday, the Israeli prime minister said he had “instructed the Mossad and the IDF to overthrow the Iranian regime”.
