The Independent Investigations Office has been called to the King George SkyTrain station after a police-involved crash left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries.

According to the IIO, at around 3 a.m. on Monday, Surrey police tried to stop a black Chevrolet Avalanche pickup truck near the intersection of King George Boulevard and 96 Avenue.

This resulted in a collision between the truck and a police vehicle, after which the truck took off north along King George Boulevard before crashing head-on into a concrete pillar near the King George SkyTrain station.

The driver suffered serious injuries, while a pedestrian located at the scene suffered life-threatening injuries.

The IIO is called in any time there has been a death or serious injury related to police action.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the chief civilian director will consider whether there are reasonable grounds to believe that an offence may have occurred.
