Watch: Hailee Steinfeld Details Her, Josh Allen’s First Days With Baby Girl
As Hailee Steinfeld game-planned for the arrival of her and husband Josh Allen‘s baby girl, she admittedly agonized over each and every play call.
“I have been going back and forth on so many details—more than I care to admit,” she detailed of the nursery prep in a recent chat with Architectural Digest, “but it really has been such a fun part about getting ready for this new season of life.”
With both their California home and their spread in Buffalo—where NFL quarterback Allen has led the Bills to seven straight winning seasons—the goal is to create spaces that feel “bright and airy and comfortable,” the Pitch Perfect actress told the outlet. She was striving for rooms that felt “inviting,” Steinfeld added, somewhere “you could spend hours in and not get tired of.”
Or get tired in.
Because few things signal I’m-about-to-enter-my-mom-era like purchasing a new coffee machine. “I’m not the biggest coffee drinker,” Steinfeld acknowledged, “but I really do appreciate the ritual of it.”
She likes watching her athlete husband, 29, brew up his perfect cup in the morning. But, for now, she’s getting her buzz from a more all-natural pick-me-up.
“To say we are unbelievably happy and in love with this baby girl would be an understatement,” the actress wrote in her Beau Society Substack newsletter April 3, two days after she revealed their little one had arrived. “I’m soaking in the newborn bliss.”
And the 29-year-old isn’t the only one suiting up for this new season.
“Cha Cha officially clocked in!!!” Steinfeld’s mom Cheri Steinfeld wrote under the Beau Society Instagram announcement April 2. Also rounding out their squad: “Pop Pop” (i.e. Steinfeld’s dad Peter Steinfeld) and the actress’ brother, an excited Uncle Griffin Steinfeld, who all chimed in that they were ready to enter the field of play.
And Allen’s pals also earned their spot on the depth chart ahead of the arrival of his and Steinfeld’s baby girl.
“The love that I’ve received from my teammates and friends? It’s been really cool,” he shared in a press conference after the Bills’ Dec. 14 victory over the New England Patriots. “It’s a special moment in [me and] my wife’s life.”

And while he’s aware it will be challenging to tackle both parenting and football once he reports to training camp this summer, “I’ve known this from well in advance,” he told 13WHAM during a January press conference. “I’ve got siblings that have kids, and I’ve got a lot of friends who have kids. I don’t know if you can plan too far in advance.”
While they’ve certainly been studying the playbook, he added, “We’re going to have to figure out things on the go just like anything else.”
Though it’s not as if every call will be an audible.
The two hinted back in December that they’d already gifted their little one a name, sharing a photo of a knit sweater under a Christmas tree, embroidered with the phrase, “Baby Beau.”
A nod to Steinfeld’s childhood nickname, she explained, “Before I was born, my parents couldn’t decide whether to name me Hailee or Bailee. Obviously, they landed on Hailee, but still liked the sound of Bailee, so they started calling me ‘Hailee Beau Bailee,’ which we shortened to Beau.”
She and Allen—who married in Santa Barbara, Calif. last May—were also showered with love (and some much-needed gear) at a nursery rhyme-filled backyard event planned entirely by Steinfeld’s mom.
And they’d already started making small tweaks sure to make a big difference once they added another teammate into the mix. Take the Hatch nightlight and sound machine, a new parent fave. “I’d been hearing about it forever,” Steinfeld shared with Architectural Digest. “Friends love it, so I went ahead and got one, and it’s been life-changing.”
Those sorts of Xs and Os have been rolling in since she announced her pregnancy in December.
“Between helpful texts, voice notes, and the passing ‘you’ll thank me later’ advice,” she explained in the Feb. 20 issue of her Beau Society newsletter, “I’m starting to feel more prepared for a newborn.”
And while she’d selected the perfect glider to rock her newborn (“Why is choosing a rocking chair this emotional?” she wondered) and seen to every last nursery detail—all while making the awards show rounds to celebrate her Oscar-winning film Sinners—it’s the big picture stuff that truly had her excited to kick off her parenting journey.
“The most profound and grounding part of getting ready for this baby has been the introspective side of it: the quiet conversations I’m having with myself almost every day,” she explained. “Sometimes I find myself asking big, lofty questions (what am I going to be like as a mom?) or having vivid daydreams of what our life is about to look like when the three of us are cuddled up in the nursery together.”
But, mostly, she continued, “I’ve experienced this surreal, full-body awareness that our world is about to expand in beautiful ways. We’re getting ready to meet someone we already love so much. I’ve racked my brain for words to describe that feeling, and I don’t have them yet. Maybe that’s the point. For now, I’m blessed to be settling into the feeling.”
And as she and Allen relish time with their newest teammate, we’re reliving the routes they ran to this point.
