What to know: B.C.-born, Toronto-based designer Warren Steven Scott is getting into the menswear game with a new collection.

The Nlaka’pamux designer, who is perhaps best known for his collections of delightful dangling earrings crafted from recycled acrylic and sterling silver, revealed a new range of menswear garments in a debut called “The Place Where We Went Together, Remember?”

The 31-piece collection features sequin-adorned separates, a gauzy button-front shirt with ruffle details, an eye-catching green trench coat with rivet and ribbon details, and more.

Said to be inspired by Italian popstar Marco Mengoni, the pieces were created with the ambition of seeing the garments become ‘much-loved companions to life’s most joyful and memorable occasions.”

“Everyone has their moment, their stage,” Scott says of the statement pieces.

Scott studied Mengoni’s stage performances and style in order to inform the direction of the designs.

Selecting natural fibres and flowing silks, the designer said the textile choice was anchored in the desire to have fabrics that felt “soft and alive against the skin,” Scott said. “Organza, charmeuse, satin, crepe de chine and silk blends.”

The collection continues Scott’s emphasis on made-in-Canada creations, with each piece being designed and constructed in the designer’s Toronto studio. The collection follows the release of a womenswear collection in 2021, titled Cedar in Sec-he Sky.

A champion of the slow fashion movement, Scott’s designs tap into an Indigenous viewpoint of craft and aesthetics, merging the elements and interpretations with Western concepts of luxury.
