B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office has been called in after a man was injured while being arrested by police in Abbotsford earlier this month.

At about 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 12, officers responded to a call from a woman who said a family member, armed with a weapon, had forcibly entered her residence on Mouat Drive, according to the IIO. The woman told Abbotsford police the man was threatening people in the home.

Officers found the man on a balcony of the residence.

During the arrest, an interaction occurred that resulted in the man sustaining a serious but non-life-threatening injury, the IIO said. The IIO did not say how the man was injured.

The man was arrested and taken to hospital for treatment.

The IIO investigates cases involving serious harm or death involving police officers.
