“If I Say What I Want to Say, I’m Gonna Get Fined”: Eli Drinkwitz Makes Feelings Known Amid Alleged Poor Refereeing in Defeat to Texas

Missouri’s hopes of beating Texas were dashed as the Tigers fell 34-20 on Saturday, and head coach Eli Drinkwitz was forced to take the high road after the loss.

Missouri may have felt let down by some of the refereeing decisions, especially late in the third quarter, when an Arch Manning incompletion was ruled a fumble on third down.

Drinkwitz made his annoyance known, but was careful not to say too much in defense of himself and his team.

“If I say what I want to say, I’m going to get fined until I don’t have any retirement,” Drinkwitz said via Trey Wallace’s X. “I’m not going to blame the officials. That would be disrespectful to Coach Sarkisian & his team.”

While Eli Drinkwitz didn’t want to dwell on the negatives for too long, ESPN’s Jesse Palmer said that Missouri fans should be furious with the officiating.
“I’m just going to say this. No skin in the game, [but] if you’re a Missouri fan, if you’re Eli Drinkwitz, you are livid,” Palmer said. “Because it does feel like a lot of these calls are going against Missouri today.”

Palmer also raised another refereeing issue in the fourth quarter, with the game tied.

“I can’t believe I’m saying this … but I think on that last play, this reffing crew missed another call that negatively impacts Missouri,” he said.
