Singer Oluwatosin Ajibade, known as Mr Eazi, has claimed that he played a significant role in revitalising Afrobeats in 2016 and the genre’s eventual global acceptance.
Speaking in a recent interview with 3Music TV, Mr Eazi claimed that he singlehandedly “saved” the genre in 2016.
“I saved Afrobeats in 2016,” he said.
The ‘Skin Tight’ crooner explained that his entry into the music scene brought a breath of fresh air and life to Afrobeats.
DAILY POST recalls that Mr Eazi emerged as one of the most valuable and breakthrough artists in the Nigerian and African music industry in 2016, driven by a strong run of hit singles and massive cultural impact, thanks to his distinct laid-back vocal delivery and fusion style.
He also won the Next Rated at the 2016 Headies Awards.
However, other emerging Afrobeats artists like Tekno, Runtown, and Ycee also dominated the African music scene and the diaspora with massive hit songs that year.
