Watch: See Will Ferrell’s Sons Magnus, Mattias Troll Him in Rare Interview
Will Ferrell‘s son Magnus Ferrell came into this world kicking and screaming.
After all, production on the iconic 2005 sports comedy Kicking & Screaming was temporary halted due to his birth.
“Kicking & Screaming had to be paused during filming because my mom went into labor with me,” Magnus revealed in an exclusive interview with E! News’ The Rundown host Erin Lim Rhodes. “It’s a true story, I swear.”
Joking that he came “out the womb with boots on,” the 22-year-old quipped that’s likely how he fell in love with soccer at a young age.
“I liked Marco Royce for a long time because I looked like him,” he shared. “I really liked [Lionel] Messi. I really liked Xavi [Hernández]. I really liked all the Barcelona players where they had that super fun team and they would just pass the ball around to everybody.”
In fact, Magnus remembers how excited he was as a kid when he was gifted a “full Barcelona kit” from his mom Viveca Paulin, who also shares sons Mattias Ferrell, 19, and Axel Ferrell, 16 with her husband of over 25 years.
“I slept in the shin guards, the cleats and the full kit,” he recounted. “Woke up at five in the morning, woke up my parents and we played. It was great.”

Nowadays, Magnus is focused on a different kind of pitch with his music career. His residency, Magnus Ferrell and Friends Live, officially kicked off at Los Angeles’ iconic Blue Note club on July 21, with additional shows added for Aug. 18. and Sept. 21.
His song “Asleep Talking” also went viral after it got the seal of approval from Michelle Obama, who Will played the song for during an appearance on the former first lady’s IMO podcast earlier this year.
“My dad told me he was going to do it and I forgot about it,” Magnus shared. “We were on a family trip and I opened my phone—and I gasped.”
He continued, “To have someone who’s that cool just even listen to one of my songs is unreal.”

The musician also found a fan in Justin Timberlake, who commented under an Instagram post of his song, “Bravo!!!!”
“He’s one of the ones you grew up with,” raved Magnus, who responded to the *NSYNC member with a piano cover of “Rock Your Body” that took him 30 takes to film. “One of the coolest sounding voices ever.”
But even with his newfound fame, Magnus is keeping humble. For one thing, he makes an effort to personally cut the watermelon that’s contractually provided on his rider at each of his shows.
“It’s a really good activity to calm the mind,” Magnus shared. “I have my weird things I enjoy.”
