NC State and Stanford meet Friday in an ACC matchup, with both teams looking to turn their seasons around. The Cardinal enter at 3-4 and face an uphill battle to finish with a winning record, while the 3-3 Wolfpack have a more favorable schedule ahead and a better opportunity to build momentum down the stretch.

NC State head coach Dave Doeren may also be looking at his last games in charge of the team after 14 seasons unless he can add some gloss in the second half of the year. The Wolfpack have made it to a bowl in each of the last six seasons but run the risk of missing out for the first time since 2019 without some consistency over the next five weeks.
Friday’s fixture at Stanford Stadium will mark the Cardinal’s first conference matchup in three weeks, having suffered a 58-7 humiliation at No. 3 Duke before turning things around with a win over Elon last week. Before that, Stanford lost 57-3 to Wake Forest, the same opponent that toppled NC State 38-14 in its last outing a fortnight ago.
That bye week for the Wolfpack could work in Stanford’s favor as it looks to build some momentum on the back of a win. The Cardinal should also benefit from the fact that its three wins this year have each come on home soil, while Doeren’s men are aiming to win on the road for the first time all season.
