The former Chairman of Fidelity Bank, Mustafa Chike-Obi, has revealed that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Olayemi Cardoso, stopped his plan to shut down the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCON.
He disclosed this in a podcast released on Friday.
According to him, AMCON has no reason to continue operating, adding that he had been pushing for its closure for the past six years.
He said the former Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, had accepted his proposal to shut down AMCON but was blocked by Cardoso.
He added that his plan to close AMCON was still active and that he believed it was the right decision.
“Six years ago, it was presented to the previous government, but it was ignored as if it was their right. It was presented to this government under former Finance Minister, Wale Edun. He accepted it and put it forward, but it was rejected by Olayemi Cardoso. The plan is still on and good,” Chike-Obi said.
