For North Carolina high school football fans, Friday’s battle between Hough and Providence Day is an absolute can’t miss.
Providence Day, ranked No. 6 in USA TODAY’s latest east region Super 15 rankings, will be traveling to face Hough, No. 3 in the east region and No. 24 in USA TODAY’s national Super 25. Both squads are coming off of unbeaten 2025 seasons and ready for the season’s first big challenge.

The matchup marks the first time that the two powerhouses have ever met each other. Safe to say, it’s guaranteed to be an electric face-off and one of the most exciting games in the country Friday night.

The game will kickoff at 7:30 p.m. ET after being pushed back from 7 p.m. ET due to extreme heat, according to local news outlet WCCB Charlotte.

Hough came out of the gate a bit slow this season, squeezing out a 15-10 win over Northwestern (SC) in Week 1. The Huskies rebounded in a more convincing, 35-10 victory over fellow North Carolina team Cardinal Gibbons in Week 2, and are certainly looking to keep that momentum going.

Three-star QB Ethan Royal has been looking sharp, tallying as many touchdown passes as incomplete passes in the Huskies’ win over Cardinal Gibbons last week. They’ve also got a strong pair of South Carolina commits in five-star CB Joshua Dobson and four-star S Davion Jones that are will surely make their mark.

The Chargers have been looking impressively strong this season, rising from No. 10 to No. 6 in USA TODAY’s east region Super 15 rankings after a 49-13 win over Myers Park and a 34-0 shutout of Rolesville. Hough will, undoubtedly, be a much tougher challenge than what they’ve faced so far, so Friday will be a good test of what Providence Day is made of this season.
