MEQUON − Homestead wasted no time establishing its dominance, defeating Menomonee Falls, 51–0, behind an explosive offensive start and a stifling defense on Friday, Oct. 9.
The Highlanders (7-1) set the tone on the opening play when senior running back Vincent Yodbut broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run just 20 seconds into the game. Homestead converted the two-point attempt to take an early 8-0 lead over the Phoenix (4-4).

Homestead continued to capitalize on its early momentum, recovering a punt. The Highlanders turned the opportunity into another touchdown, extending their lead to 15–0 before adding another score to close out the first quarter with a commanding 23–0 advantage.
A 32-yard touchdown catch by Jack Dykema in the second quarter helped Homestead extend its lead to 37–0 by halftime. The Highlanders added another touchdown in the third quarter before Markey Walker capped the scoring with a 28-yard fourth-quarter touchdown run.
Although the offense delivered throughout the night, Homestead’s defense was equally impressive.
Homestead head coach Drake Zortman credited the defense’s preparation for its performance coming off a 36-35 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran the previous week.

“Our defense had a really, really great week of prep,” Zortman said. “We like to think if things don’t go our way, we’re going to fix them and play much better the next week.”
Zortman also pointed to the team’s fast start as a key factor in its offensive success. After Yodbut’s opening-play touchdown, Sam Klink executed a surprise onside kick that helped Homestead gain another possession and extend its early advantage.
“Getting off to a big start, a great start like that in the first quarter, was key to the offensive success,” Zortman said.
Despite the decisive victory, Zortman emphasized that the Highlanders would remain focused on improving rather than looking too far ahead.

“We’re going to still take things one game at a time and prepare hard like we always do,” Zortman said.
Homestead plays at Slinger (5-3) and Menomonee Falls hosts Waukesha West (4-4), both games on Friday, Oct. 16, in the regular-season finale for both teams.
