Watch: ‘Hocus Pocus’ Actress Thora Birch Comes Out as Bisexual
Thora Birch is sharing a magical truth.
While expressing her support for the LGBTQ+ community, the Hocus Pocus alum came out as bisexual and reflected on how the community has made a significant impact on her life.
“As a hometown girl, I’m always here to show my support for the community,” Thora told at The Abbey’s 35th Anniversary in West Hollywood May 20, “which shaped so much of who I am and my identity as well, being a bi person.”
Thora—who married talent manager Michael Benton Adler in 2018—emphasized the importance of finding a strong community, especially amid the current time of division.
“Stand with them, and stick with them,” she said, “and share that love that you share together, and reach it toward others.”
“That’s the only way we’re going to get through all this madness is just embracing one another,” Thora continued. “We have to stop fighting.”
Along with celebrating The Abbey and the queer community, the 44-year-old—who notably starred in multiple ’90s and early 2000s classics such as Now and Then, American Beauty and Ghost World—shared that, like many fans, she’s also curious where her iconic characters ended up.
“I feel like so many of my fans kind of wonder about, obviously, Dani [from] Hocus Pocus. I feel like Teeny, we know what happened with her, so that’s good,” she said, referring to her character from Now and Then. “But it would be intriguing to see some of the other old standbys, like Enid from Ghost World. Who knows what she’s up to? She’s alive, probably.”
Yet, Thora said, “I think there’s also something nice about having them encapsulated.”

And while she did not reprise her role as Dani Dennison in the 2022 Hocus Pocus sequel, Thora previously expressed her interest in coming back for Hocus Pocus 3 after the Disney film was announced.
“I’d like to know what they land on for how Dani wound up,” she told Entertainment Tonight in an October 2025 interview. “I’m super open to the idea. They like talking about this stuff, so we’ll see.”
In fact, it was recently revealed that the Sanderson Sisters will officially be returning to put a spell on fans once again. After all, E! News confirmed earlier this month that Hocus Pocus 3 is in development, with the legendary trio of witches—Bette Middler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy—set to reprise their roles.
And as Thora continues to rally behind the LGBTQ community ahead of Pride Month, read on to see what more stars had to say about their coming out journeys.
