Surrey police are investigating after a Cloverdale business was shot at Thursday afternoon.

Shots rang out near 58 Avenue and 176 Street at around 2:20 p.m., said Surrey Police Service in a news release. When officers arrived, they found at least one business damaged by bullets. No one was injured.

About 25 minutes later, officers were called to a report of a vehicle on fire near 20 Avenue and 174 Street, about eight kilometres away.

At this early stage of the investigation, the motive for the shooting is not known. However, investigators believe the incident was not related to the rash of extortion-related shootings that has plagued Surrey and other municipalities.

Police are also trying to determine whether the burnt vehicle was related to the shots fired call.

The area of 58 Avenue and 175 Street has been shut down to traffic as investigators gather evidence.
