Suspected gunmen on Monday killed three members of Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVIS).
The incident occurred along the Zaria-Pambegua road in Kubau Local Government Area.
KADVIS spokesman, Yunusa Shehu Ibrahim, in a statement explained that the personnel were on routine security checks on that axis in the state when the incident happened.
It explained that the deceased tried to stop a red Volkswagen Golf saloon car but the driver refused, thereby prompting the personnel to pursue the vehicle to ascertain the occupants’ identity.
He said, “The armed men in the process subsequently opened fire on the personnel, killing the three personnel.”
Ibrahim identified the victims as Dallami Dantani, Abdullahi Hamisu and Zakariyya Musa.
According to the statement, the attackers later went to the KADVIS office and opened fire, injured Hamisu and Musa before escaping towards Zaria.
The Kaduna State Commander of KADVlS, Ali Audu condoled the families of the affected personnel and described their deaths as a painful loss to the service, Kaduna State and the country at large.
He assured the families that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, while commending the deceased for their courage and dedication to duty.
The commander explained that security personnel have heightened surveillance across Pambegua and surrounding areas in ongoing efforts to unearth the victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
