Watch: Goldie Hawn Shares Why She Took a Break From Her Acting Career
Goldie Hawn doesn’t want to go overboard with her projects.
After all, the 80-year-old’s filmography already boasts countless beloved and impressive works—which is why she’s not running to get back in front of the camera.
“It’s about the content,” Goldie told People in an interview published April 29. “Acting for acting’s sake, taking things… I’ve read a lot of shows, a lot of scripts that I didn’t like or I didn’t think I’d fit. The one thing about acting is that I’ve done it, and I had a great career, and I honor that.”
Indeed, the Death Becomes Her star hasn’t appeared in a major project since The Christmas Chronicles 2 in 2020, which she starred in alongside longtime love Kurt Russell.
As for what initially drew Goldie—mom to daughter Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson with Bill Hudson, and Wyatt Russell with Kurt—away from the screen?
“I think ultimately every life has to have its sections,” she noted. “Doing the same thing over and over again for your whole life is not as interesting to me. And I decided at probably 55 or something. ‘What are you going to do for this next part of your life?’ And I knew that there was more out there to learn and to do.”

Yet, getting Goldie back onto a film set isn’t all that complicated: Just give her a worthwhile script.
“I would love to get a material that could actually be like, ‘Oh my God, I want this so bad,’” she explained. “‘This is so funny. She’s so crazy. She’s so interesting.’ But I haven’t come across it.”
Or, pitch a story that would see her share the screen with some of her very talented family members.
“It’s such a great idea because we have so much talent,” Goldie admitted. “Never say never, because that could happen at any time.”

But Goldie didn’t just take a step back from the screens, she also distanced herself from Hollywood as a whole, with her and Kurt now spending much of their time living in Colorado.
For Kurt, the Centennial State provides a different pace of life.
“Our Old Snowmass home is my favorite,” he explained to The Wall Street Journal in an interview published March 20. “I like to wake up in bed each morning looking at the mountain out back. I like to head down to the barn, saddle up a horse and ride. I also like zoning out in front of the living-room fireplace.”

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
