Chenango Forks entered the second half of the Section 4 varsity football season with a 6-0 record after defeating Oneonta 49-12 on Friday, Oct. 9, emerging as one of the only undefeated teams in the league.
Vestal, Susquehanna Valley, Maine-Endwell, Union-Endicott and Chenango Valley are key local teams that came out of Week 6 with a win.

This past weekend’s games were a series of big blowouts, key upsets and a new hierarchy within divisions. Waverly’s 33-22 victory over the formerly undefeated Johnson City Wildcats team made it this week’s ‘game of the week’.
Several Week 6 games featured playoff-ready teams, and these three matchups were some of the biggest:
Game of the week: Waverly 33 – Johnson City 22

The Waverly Wolverines capped the Johnson City Wildcats’ historic streak with a 33-22 Friday win at Wildcats Stadium.
The Wildcats, who had continued a best-ever start to the season, trailed 20-7 at halftime. Sophomore quarterback Cooper Chrystie scored Waverly’s first points on the first play of the game, breaking away from the defense for a 65-yard touchdown.

Waverly’s Carter Chrystie secured a 14-0 lead on the third possession with a 72-yard touchdown pass from his brother.
The Wildcats scored on the second play of a much better second half, putting the score at 20-14 with 14 seconds left in the third quarter, a 47-yard run by senior Kalil Robinson.
Senior tailback Bryce LaForest and senior Chase Wheeler stretched Waverly’s lead with a 46-yard touchdown run and an 8-yard touchdown pass, respectively, to put the score at 33-14 in the third quarter.

Robinson led the Wildcats with 165 rushing yards and three touchdowns, including a one-yard run with seconds left in the third quarter that cut the deficit to 33-22.

The Wolverines’ defense kept the Wildcats from tying the game. The team finished with 243 rushing yards and 138 passing yards.
Cooper Chrystie led the team with 123 rushing yards on 20 carries and scored a touchdown run. He also went 5-for-10 passing for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

Susquehanna Valley took Windsor off the undefeated list this season, winning 31-8 to improve to 5-1 and top Windsor in Division V.

The Sabers’ defense took precedence, holding the Black Knights to zero points until minutes into the fourth quarter and becoming the game’s biggest deciding factor.
Senior Maverick Aton had the defense’s biggest play, scoring a 39-yard touchdown in the second quarter after recovering a blocked punt. Aton also led the Sabers’ offense with 74 rushing yards on six carries, 60 yards on two receptions, totaling three touchdowns.
Junior Trenton Koch recorded a sack and four tackles, his best finish since leading the defense (5 tackles) in the Sabers’ only loss of the season.
The Black Knights trailed 24-0 at the end of the third quarter, then scored their first of the night on a 7-yard rush by senior Mason Colgan.

Horseheads Blue Raiders improved to 5-1 after defeating Section 3’s Central Square Redhawks 60-28, securing one of Friday’s biggest wins.
The Blue Raiders set the tone with a 40-yard run by senior Jaxon Burchard on the first play. Burchard stayed sharp on defense, forcing a Redhawks fumble that senior Bryce Thomas recovered for a touchdown.
Horseheads’ first-string defense kept Central Square to a small first half, while the offense had an explosive rushing game. The Blue Raiders scored six touchdowns in the first half to lead 41-7.
Buchard, Thomas and Sullivan Craft accounted for over 300 total rushing yards in Horseheads’ eight-touchdown game. Thomas led with 127 yards and five touchdowns. Craft had 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Buchard finished with 101 yards in the blowout win.

The Redhawks’ Braxton Lucas led the team with 107 yards on seven carries and scored one rushing touchdown. He also went 6-for-9 for 121 passing yards and two touchdowns.
