The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 1,889 personnel across Kano State as part of a special patrol operation ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The command said the move was aimed at ensuring safety on the roads, reducing accidents, and easing traffic flow during the Sallah period.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Kano Sector Command Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Labaran.According to him, both regular and special marshals have been mobilised for the exercise, which is expected to run from May 25 to May 31.
“The special patrol is part of routine operational measures introduced during festive periods when there is usually high traffic volume on major roads,” the statement said.
The Kano Sector Commander, Idris Lawal, said the operation is designed to prevent road crashes and save lives during the celebration.
“The aim is to reduce road traffic crashes, minimise congestion, and ensure the safety of lives and property during the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations,” Lawal said.
He explained that the command has also deployed 24 patrol vehicles, four ambulances, one heavy-duty tow truck, two motorcycles, and other equipment to strategic locations across the state for quick emergency response.
Lawal added that unit commanders and officers across all 44 local government areas of Kano State have been directed to ensure full coverage during the patrol period.
The FRSC said enforcement teams will target offences such as speeding, reckless driving, overloading, use of mobile phones while driving, and vehicles with worn-out tyres or mechanical faults. It also confirmed that mobile courts will be used to prosecute offenders, while rescue teams remain on standby to respond to emergencies.
The corps urged motorists and other road users to obey traffic rules, be patient on the roads, and avoid behaviours that could lead to accidents.Members of the public were also encouraged to use the FRSC emergency line, 122, to report accidents or road emergencies for quick response.
The Kano Sector Commander wished residents of the state a peaceful Eid-el-Kabir celebration, free from road accidents.
