Florida opens SEC play Saturday night on the road against Auburn, the first true test of the Jon Sumrall era.
The Gators cruised through their first two games against FAU and Campbell, but the competition jumps considerably against an unbeaten Tigers team. Aaron Philo, Jadan Baugh and the rest of Florida’s offense that rolled through nonconference play must carry that production into a hostile SEC road environment.

Auburn presents a different challenge on both sides of the ball, with quarterback Byrum Brown giving Florida its toughest defensive test so far and a Tigers defense that can put more pressure on Philo than he has seen in his first two starts this season.

Gators Wire’s Week 3 expert predictions for Florida vs Auburn
If Florida is going to make noise this season, it begins with this game. It will be one of the few SEC matchups the Gators are favored to win and on the road, to boot. However, the margin of error will be razor-thin against their historic conference rivals.
If the offense and special teams keep clicking, it should bode well for the Orange and Blue, but the defense stepping up and continuing to improve will be the key to success. I think Florida’s offense will prove too much for Auburn, while the defense will rise to the occasion despite still showing some weaknesses.
