Five foreign nationals were arrested and charged in Surrey and Ottawa on Thursday after the co-owners of an auto dealership reported extortion attempts and two targeted attacks involving arson and shootings at their Surrey and Langley locations.

The RCMP investigation began in June 2025 and involved charges of extortions, firearm possession, and drug trafficking.

Indian national Sanket Singla, who was being tracked while overseas, was arrested at Toronto’s Pearson Airport on Thursday. The 23-year-old has been charged with extortion, two firearm counts, property damage and an explosives charge.

The other four were arrested in Surrey on Thursday. All five remain in custody pending bail hearings on Oct. 5 in Surrey.

One 24-year-old suspect from Surrey has been charged with extortion, six counts of firearm charges and two counts of drug trafficking. Police did not provide his full name.

During the arrests in Surrey, TCMP said, they seized firearms, ammunition and magazines, and suspected drugs.

RCMP Supt. Harm Dosange said: ” The RCMP’s position was we were going to target the higher levels of the extortion and hold them accountable,”

“Numerous times we sat with the victims, and we heard the same message: ‘We came here. Our life’s work. We’ve worked hard. Now people are trying to take that away from us,’” said Dosange.

RCMP also said additional evidence linking other suspects and potential extortion-related offences across Western Canada was discovered and more charges are expected.
