A father’s desperation knows no limits. In 2017, the image of Zhang Liyong lying in a grave next to his little daughter, Zhang Xinlei, went around the world.
The girl was suffering from a serious blood disease and the family could no longer afford the treatment. Faced with the lack of hope, her father dug her grave so that she could play there and “get used” to her final destiny without fear.
But when the world learned of his pain, the unexpected happened. Global solidarity raised more than $15,000 in record time, allowing Xinlei to receive the necessary treatment.
Today, that pit is just a distant memory. The little girl overcame the worst and her father went from preparing a farewell to enjoying every second of life by her side.
Love was stronger than death!
