A residence in Surrey was the target of a repeat extortion-related shooting early Thursday in the South Newton neighbourhood.

The Surrey Police Service says that shortly after 4 a.m. there were reports of a shooting outside a residence in the area of 57th Avenue and 148th Street.

Investigators say the residence was unoccupied during the shooting and no one was injured. They believe the shooting is extortion-related because of previous threats and a shooting outside the residence on May 20. No one was injured in that shooting either.

SPS’s extortion response team is investigating.

Anyone with information about this shooting, including security or dash-cam video, or who may know the identities of the suspects, is asked to contact police at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

There have been more than 100 extortion-related shootings in Surrey this year, targeting B.C.’s South Asian community.
