Watch: Danielle Fishel and Ex Lance Bass Recreate Prom Photo Nearly 30 Years Later
Danielle Fishelnever said bye bye bye to her old prom dress.
And it was a good thing she didn’t as the Boy Meets World alum recreated her prom photo with ex-boyfriend Lance Bass—nearly three decades after their high school romance.
“Pulled out my actual prom dress from 1999 and somehow got back into it… after taking it in, a little altering, and a pep talk,” she said in a video posted to Instagram April 21, showcasing the all-white matching top and skirt set. “Some wins, some losses…the dress fit, but a few of my former curves clearly RSVP’d no.”
While Bass appeared to get a new suit for their reunion, he donned an identical boutonniere to the one he wore on prom night.
The two remade their old photo, which shows the *NSYNC singer keeping his hands just above his date’s waist. He quipped in his own Instagram caption, “Some things change… and some things stay respectfully still hovering.”
Although Bass and Fishel were high school sweethearts, the “Tearin’ Up My Heart” artist came out as gay in 2006. The former couple recounted the moment that he opened up to the Pod Meets World host about his sexuality.
“Around the time that you came out publicly, you had a, I think it was a Halloween party, and I went to your house and you pulled me aside,” Fishel recalled during a June 2020 episode of Bass’ old podcast The Daily POPCast. “Do you remember any of this? You pulled me aside and you told me, and I just said, ‘Lance, it’s totally okay.’ And we hugged, it was great.”
In the time since, they each found their perfect match, with Lance marrying Michael Turchin in 2014 and Danielle tying the knot with Jensen Karp in 2018.

And while they broke up two weeks after their now-iconic prom outing, the pair stayed close throughout the years—and were even working on developing a movie about their short-lived romance at one point.
“The reason we wanted to make this prom story into a film, I think so many people can relate to that story,” Bass explained in an August 2022 episode of Fishel’s podcast Pod Meets World. “So many people in the LGBT community, their prom night was the night they were like, ‘Oh, wait a minute. This can’t happen anymore.’ This was the catalyst for me that made me start to accept myself, which took a long time after that, but that was definitely the first little straw that broke.”
