Watch: Top 9 Biggest Movie Franchises Based on Books!
Every summer after won’t be the same.
Because this is the season Every Year After finally makes its debut. Based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel Every Summer After, the series premieres on Prime Video June 10. And considering all eight episodes are dropping at once, there will be plenty to binge-watch.
Told over the course of six past summers and one present weekend, the story follows Percy Fraser (Sadie Soverall) and Sam Florek (Matt Cornett). After years of avoiding her childhood summer retreat Barry’s Bay, Percy returns to the Canadian lake town to attend the funeral of Sam’s mom. Once there, Percy is flooded with memories of how her bond with Sam shifted from platonic to romantic before their relationship dramatically came to an end.
As old feelings arise, things become more complicated—especially considering Sam is now in a new relationship. And there’s one huge secret keeping Percy and Sam from finding closure.
While there can be a lot of pressure with getting a TV adaptation of a beloved book right, Soverall and Cornett were up for the challenge.
“We knew the pressure well,” the actress told E! News, “but I think the fact that Carley was so involved and it is very faithful to the book, I think it made it really enjoyable to do and it kind of relieved the pressure.”

Still, there are some changes—including how one big reveal is made (no spoilers).
“I really, really loved the way that they have these parallels of Sam and Percy when they’re kids and when they’re adults, having similar but opposite stories—like the way it’s filmed and the way it kind of cuts back and forth,” Cornett noted. “You see that they’re in a very similar situation but on opposite ends of the spectrum, having opposites conversations.”
He added, “I think that’s something that I love so much—you get to see that, even though they’ve grown up, their life is still inherently at its core the same.”
And as BookTok lovers revisit the familiar story, they’ll notice some familiar faces. To see where fans have seen the cast of Every Summer After before, read on.
