Watch: Why Evangeline Lilly Doesn’t Want a “Lost” Reboot
Evangline Lilly wanted to follow a different path.
Six years after the Lost alum stepped back from Hollywood, she clarified that her turn away from the spotlight stemmed from her hope to “make the world a better place.”
“There are many people who will claim that actors are making the world a better place, that they’ve had an impact on their lives,” Lilly told the Christian Broadcasting Network in an interview Oct. 19. “But I’ve always wanted a much more hands-on impact. I’ve done 22 years of hands-on humanitarian work in Rwanda.”
While she loved telling stories as an actress, it wasn’t fulfilling to follow Hollywood’s script.
“I’d like to tell stories of my own instead of being in front of the camera,” the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actress explained. “I’d much prefer a quieter position. I’ve always hated being famous. I never made any secrets about that. I’ve always said being famous is the cost of the wealth that you can get as an actor. Like that’s what you pay for—the wealth.”
Although her decision to leave Hollywood was “made with conviction,” Lilly initially felt a little lost outside of the Hollywood bubble.
“When you’re successful at something, it feels really good when the world says, ‘We love you! You’re amazing!’ Like, this is a wonderful feeling,” she noted. “How do you walk away from that? And I’ve had moments of gripping fear of like, ‘What am I doing?’”
Indeed, the 47-year-old—mom to two kids with Norman Kali—admitted she feared “let go of so much—power, influence, and potential money,” but she after six years that has changed. These days, she has “total trust and surrender that God has a plan for my life.”
And she has quite the career to look back on when she does feel nostalgic.

Ellen and her wife Portia de Rossi have since moved to the Cotswolds, deciding to stay put in November 2024 after Donald Trump‘s reelection, the talk show host told to Richard Bacon in a July 2025 conversation at the Everyman theater in Cheltenham.”It’s absolutely beautiful,” she gushed about the English countryside, per the BBC. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture—everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”It’s clean,” Ellen continued. “Everything here is just better—the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here. We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”
