Manchester United icon, Wayne Rooney has urged Michael Carrick to share a Sir Alex Ferguson lesson with Bruno Fernandes as the club looks to rediscover its standards.
Rooney spoke after Fernandes questioned Carrick’s tactics following United’s 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como.
Speaking via The United Stand, Rooney suggested Fernandes might benefit from a short break.
The former England international recalled how Ferguson would occasionally give Cristiano Ronaldo time off, allowing the Portugal forward to recharge.
However, Rooney believes Fernandes could need similar treatment after a long season and a World Cup.
“Fernandes might need the manager to tell him to go on a little holiday because he had a long season and then a long World Cup,” Rooney said.
“I remember Alex Ferguson did that with Cristiano Ronaldo. But he would be recharging his batteries.”
This is coming ahead of Man United’s Premier League game against Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.
