Ace broadcaster and football pundit Piers Morgan has disclosed that Viktor Gyokeres feels ‘disrespected’ at Arsenal after being effectively told to leave the club during the summer transfer window.
Gyokeres, who transferred to Arsenal in the summer of 2025 for £64 million, made his first appearance of the new season as a late substitute in Sunday’s victory over Chelsea.
The Swedish international did not participate in Arsenal’s first two matches, and Morgan asserted that Gyokeres was ‘intentionally benched’ in an effort to force his exit from the club.
Arsenal showed interest in signing Julian Alvarez over the summer, and reports suggested that a potential swap deal involving Gyokeres was being considered.
Morgan stated he was ‘informed on good authority’ that Arsenal indeed planned to sell Gyokeres if they could finalise a deal with Atletico Madrid for Alvarez.
However, Alvarez had concerns about returning to the Premier League and preferred a transfer to La Liga rivals Barcelona, a move that Atletico promptly rejected.
Consequently, the Argentine World Cup winner remained in Madrid, and Gyokeres continued at the Emirates Stadium, where he faces an uncertain future and the likelihood of limited playing time.
“Viktor Gyokeres has hardly had a kick since the season started and I was told on good authority that he was being deliberately benched,” Morgan said on Sports Uncensored.
“Arsenal intended to attempt a trade involving him for Julian Alvarez, but ultimately, that deal could not be finalised.
“I was told that Gyokeres is p****d off about the way he’s been treated and feels he’s been disrespected.
“I think that is indisputable, but it also highlights the ruthless nature of Mikel Arteta, which many Arsenal supporters appreciate.
“I have been told that Arsenal is preparing to re-enter the market for a new striker in January. They plan to pursue someone during the January transfer window.”
