The Ebola disease has claimed the life of a young doctor, Marie-France Shogogo, in Beni, Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Director-General of Africa Centre for Disease Control, CDC, Jean Kaseya, announced the development in a post on X.
Kaseya stated that the young doctor died after contracting the virus while treating patients in Beni, a city in eastern DRC.
He also said that the doctor was among the health workers on the frontline fighting the outbreak.
The death of the doctor has raised concerns about the safety of health workers as they battle the deadly virus.
DAILY POST reports that Beni is one of the areas in DR Congo that has recorded cases of Ebola in recent years, with many deaths reported.
Health authorities in DR Congo have called for more support and protective equipment for health workers to prevent further deaths.
Meanwhile, the Africa CDC said it is working with the DR Congo government to contain the spread of the virus.
