Police say alcohol was a factor in a serious collision in Abbotsford Friday that sent one person to hospital.

Abbotsford police said the SUV hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Simon Avenue and Emerson Street at around 3:30 p.m.

The driver initially drove away, but returned a short time later. She was arrested at at the scene, while the seriously injured pedestrian was rushed to hospital.

While the investigation is still in its early stages, police say alcohol played a role in the collision.

The crash has shut down Simon Avenue between Allwood Street and Gladwin Road and Emerson Street to South Fraser Way.
