The Miami Dolphins are already looking ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft, and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan is getting an early look at some of the names who could shape that class.
Sullivan is the only NFL GM expected to attend Saturday’s Texas-Ohio State matchup in Austin. Plenty of NFL scouts will also be there, however, Sullivan’s presence puts a little more attention on a game loaded with potential first-round talent.

For the Dolphins, this is the kind of game that can give the front office an early read on players who could become important targets months from now. The Dolphins have a young roster, a new front office, and a new coaching staff entering the 2026 season, making the development of that young core a key part of the team’s direction.
That also makes the 2027 draft worth watching closely. Sullivan does not need to make any decisions in September but needs to start building a feel for the players who could eventually become those decisions. Watching a matchup like Texas-Ohio State in person gives him a chance to see several highly regarded prospects on the same field.
Those names cover several positions Miami could have reason to monitor. The quarterback stands out. The Dolphins could be looking for a long-term answer at the position, which makes Manning one of the most obvious players to watch. Sullivan being in Austin also means he gets a close look at a quarterback who will face one of the strongest opponents on the college schedule.
Smith gives the Dolphins another intriguing evaluation. The Ohio State receiver is already one of the most recognizable names in the 2027 draft conversation, and a matchup against Texas gives Sullivan another opportunity to judge how he handles a major stage.
Then there is Simmons, who could be especially interesting if the Dolphins are searching for more help along the edge. Coleman and Goosby add two more positions to the scouting list. The Dolphins will not be making their 2027 draft board from one Saturday night. Sullivan will have scouts tracking these players throughout the college season, and plenty can change before the draft arrives.

That is what makes Sullivan’s trip to Austin notable. He is not simply watching one of college football’s biggest games; however, he is getting an early, in-person look at several players who could eventually become part of the Dolphins’ plans.
