The Boston Red Sox flew across the country to begin a road trip, and action got underway Monday night in Sacramento against the Athletics.

It was the opening of a four-game series for Boston against the A’s, and a chance to take their red hot recent form away from Fenway Park to see how it looks in different digs.
The A’s don’t have a good record, but they’ve got an intriguing batting order which had the potential to make things tough on Boston’s pitching staff.
On Monday night, though, the Red Sox put together a positive evening.
Yes, the Red Sox won their game on Monday, July 27 against the A’s.
The final score was 4-2 in favor of Boston.
All four Boston runs came on one swing. Ceddanne Rafaela lofted a grand slam to left field in the top of the sixth inning.

At the time of the grand slam, the A’s had a 1-0 lead, and they then got one run back in the bottom of the sixth to pull within 4-2. That was as close as they’d get.

The Red Sox got 5.1 innings of two-run ball out of Payton Tolle, who struck out seven.
They threw a scoreless seventh, eighth and ninth with Jovani Moran, Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman.
Whitlock got his 20th hold by striking out one in a 1-2-3 inning.
Chapman allowed a hit but struck out the side for his 25th save.
The Red Sox had five hits, and four were for extra bases. In addition to the Rafaela grand slam, they got doubles from Connor Wong, Caleb Durbin and Andruw Monasterio.
Boston is now 55-50 and will look to keep it going on Tuesday night.
