Left-hander Mitch Bratt, one of the better pitching prospects in the Diamondbacks’ system, left his start with Triple-A Reno on Friday, May 29, after just two innings due to inflammation in his back, farm director Chris Slivka said.
“I don’t think it’s really anything that should keep him out for an extended period of time,” Slivka said. “Just a little inflammation that we want to let subside.”

Slivka said the issue traces back to an “awkward” throw Bratt made while fielding his position in a start earlier this month. He underwent an MRI, then returned to the mound last week in Oklahoma City, throwing five scoreless innings.
But he felt “a little bit of discomfort” on Friday and the coaching staff in Reno decided to make a change, Slivka said.
Slivka said Bratt is day to day, adding it was not yet clear whether he would miss time or make his next scheduled start.
Bratt, who was part of the return from the Texas Rangers in the Merrill Kelly deal last July, has posted terrific numbers in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League, logging a 2.68 ERA in 40 1/3 innings with 11 walks, 38 strikeouts and three home runs allowed.
