    Demi Lovato’s Camp Rock 3 Cameo Explained by Director

    Watch: Demi Lovato Details “Best Year” of Marriage to Husband Jordan Lutes

    Demi Lovato wasn’t the kind of girl to hide her face in Camp Rock 3. 

    After all, the “This Is Me” singer makes a very special cameo during the newest film in the Camp Rock franchise, a moment that director VeronicaRodriguez felt was incredibly important for fans and Lovato’s character, Mitchie. 

    “I was like, if we don’t bring Mitchie, people are gonna be rioting. People will be so upset—myself included,” Rodriguez exclusively told E! News at the Aug. 10 premiere of Camp Rock 3. “It all started with Mitchie. It would not have felt right to have a movie without her in it.”

    And while there was initially talk of just mentioning Mitchie’s name, Rodriguez nixed that idea, explaining that fans of the films “need to see where she’s at now.” Of course, it certainly helped that Lovato—who is also an executive producer on the film—was game to see how best Mitchie could be incorporated into the film as she let the light shine on new cast members like MalachiBarton and LiamaniSegura.

    “We landed on a really beautiful place where she was just like, ‘It’s not about me. This isn’t about me. This is about them,’” Rodriguez said. “She’s a part of it. She started it. We honor that. But she’s like, ‘Go, go to the top of the mountain, my new campers.’”

    Lovato was also ready to rock on and wouldn’t change a thing about stepping into “the role of this character once again.”

    “Mitchie will always have a huge, important place in my heart,” she shared with E!. “Mitchie was the beginning of my career, basically, and so she’s very meaningful to me. To be able to do this film was just so so important and special to me.”

    It was also nostalgic and exciting for her to be reuniting with costars Nick Jonas,Joe JonasandKevin Jonas16 years after they starred together in Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. 

    “I just have so much love in my heart for this character and for this movie,” the 33-year-old added, “and I’m so glad that we could bring this character back to life.”

    Camp Rock 3 premieres on the Disney Channel Aug. 13 and is available the next day on Disney+.

    Demi LovatoAfter starring as camp newcomer Mitchie Torres, Demi would go on to front her own Disney Channel series, Sonny With a Chance, for two years.Demi’s music career took off after saying goodbye to the network, releasing hit singles such as “Confident,” “Sorry, Not Sorry” and “Cool for the Summer”—and seven studio albums.     Nick JonasWhile the youngest member of the band took on a supporting role as drummer Nate Gray in the two films, Nick would be the only brother to go on to have an acting career, starring in the gritty MMA drama Kingdom and Fox’s Scream Queens. He also starred in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, one of 2017’s highest-grossing movies, and returned for the 2019 sequel.     Kevin Jonas”Yeah man, this is where Connect 3…connected.”The eldest Jonas played Jason Gray, one-third of the movie’s hit band and a Camp Rock enthusiast. The brothers would go on to star in their own Disney Channel series Jonas for two seasons, while also continuing to release music as The Jonas Brothers.When the band announced their hiatus in 2010, Kevin went on to build his family with Danielle Jonas, the pair welcoming daughters Alena Rose Jonas in 2014 and Valentina Angelina Jonas in 2016. The couple also starred in the E! series Married to Jonas, and Kevin dove into the business world, founding real estate development and construction firm JonasWerner.     Alyson StonerAfter their breakout in Step Up and Cheaper by the Dozen and a recurring role on The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, Alyson took on the part of aspiring producer and dancer Caitlyn Gellar. Aside from returning for two Step Up sequels, Alyson has voiced characters in the Kingdom Heart video game franchise and continues to play Isabella on Disney’s hit animated series Phineas & Ferb. Alyson penned an essay for Teen Vogue in 2018, opening up about falling in love with their female dance instructor.     Meaghan MartinAfter playing Camp Rock diva Tess Tyler, Meaghan would go on to star in Mean Girl 2 and front the short-lived TV series 10 Things I Hate About You, taking over the role of Bianca Stratford.In addition to guesting on Jessie, Melissa & Joey and House, Meaghan recurred on MTV’s Awkward, and made her London stage debut in The Actor’s Nightmare in 2019. Meaghan married British actor Oli Higginson in September 2016.

    Anna Maria Perez de TagleIn addition to camper Ella Pador, Anna Maria was also known for her role as Ashley Dewitt on the network’s hit series Hannah Montana. After Final Jam, the actress went on to guest star on Baby Daddy and the CW’s Charmed reboot, and she starred in the 2011 Broadway revival of Godspell. In 2019, the former Disney star married Scott Kline Jr., with Orange Is the New Black‘s Uzo Aduba serving as her maid of honor. The couple welcomed daughter Amelia Grace in June 2021.

    Jordan FrancisThe Canadian rapper and actor played breakdancer Barron James in both Camp Rock movies. He is now working as a songwriter, producer and choreographer. Jordan remained friends with Demi, posting a sweet Instagram tribute in December 2019. “I’ve known you over a decade and no matter what you’ve always been a real one to me and my family,” he wrote. “I always got your back.”

    Aaryn DoyleAaryn, who co-starred as singer and dancer Lola Scott in the first film, was one of the only cast members not to return for Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam.Since starring in the DCOM, the Canadian star still works as an actress and singer, as well as hosts her own YouTube channel.

    Jasmine RichardsThe Canadian singer co-starred as Margaret “Peggy” Dupree in both Camp Rock movies, which followed her run on the TV series Naturally, Sadie. After her time at camp came to an end, Jasmine went on to appear in Bomb Girls. She married Mike Caci in September 2018 and the couple welcomed their son Luke in September 2021. Jasmine is a content creator and social media manager.

    Daniel FathersThe English actor and screenwriter, who played Brown Cesario, the owner of the camp, has gone on to appear in hit TV shows such as 90210, Orphan Black, Reign, Atlanta and House of the Dragon. He starred opposite Harry Potter alum Rupert Grint in the TV adaptation of Snatch and joined the cast as a series regular in season two.  Daniel also appeared in Netflix’s 2017 movie A Christmas Prince and 2025’s The Last Supper.

    Julie BrownJulie’s Dee La Duke helped mentor the campers as the musical director in both films.She held a recurring role on The Middle for several years, appeared on series such as Coffee House Chronicles and the 2023 TV movie Craft Me a Romance and worked as a writer on the sitcom Melissa & Joey.
