Watch: Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty Reunion Takes the Crown
Demi Lovato wouldn’t change a thing.
Having grown up in the spotlight alongside Selena Gomez, Lovato is grateful for the deep history they share, which they honored with a new Rare Beauty campaign.
“We’ve been friends since we were 7 years old when we met on Barney,” she told Elle in an interview published Oct. 28. “There have been different chapters throughout our lives, and naturally, friends are in each other’s lives heavily at times, and then sometimes you’re not in constant communication. But Selena is someone that I’ve always loved and adored.”
So, when it comes to their ups and downs over the years, the 34-year-old added, “It’s really great to be in a place today where we can collaborate on things, but also just hang out and spend time together.”
Not only did the pair pay homage to their 2009 film Princess Protection Program for Gomez’s newest beauty bundle featuring two blushes and a blush brush, but the campaign also included a cheeky recreation of their late aughts YouTube videos.
The campaign, which was set in motion after the Disney Channel alums publicly reunited for the first time in nearly a decade at Lovato’s concert in April, proved to be more than just a professional trip down memory lane
After all, with such a long history of friendship, so too comes an extensive digital footprint.

“I went on YouTube recently and looked at our vlogs together,” Lovato said. “I think that was something that really captured our innocence at the time and our drive to have a presence in front of people while still staying true to ourselves.”
Although the Sonny With a Chance alum—who married Jutes in 2025—admitted not all of it was as charming to look back on as their Disney projects.
“I showed my husband,” Lovato said, before adding, “I couldn’t stick around for the whole video because I felt so cringe. But they were iconic. I was like, ‘Okay, you can watch 10 seconds of this.’ I don’t know what I’m doing [in them], but it was really funny and really cute.”

Their vlogs, however, are not the only impact the pair have made on the world: Even more important are the ways both Lovato and Gomez, also 34, have used their platforms to advocate for mental health awareness and wellness.
In fact, for Lovato—who told Elle she decided to share her mental health and addiction struggles after not having anyone in the public eye to look up to at a young age—Gomez’s candor is one of the traits she admires most about her longtime friend.
“I really commend Selena for being open about her journey as well,” she said. “With everything that she’s dealt with, she’s such an advocate for mental health, and I think that’s so incredible.”
As for herself, Lovato affirmed, “I’m in a great place, and I feel good. I’m sober, and all the good things.”
