B.C. park users will soon need to register for day-uses passes at three popular provincial parks in an effort reduce overcrowding and manage the impact on nature.

Passes will be required as of Monday for Pipi7íyekw/Joffre Lakes Park, next Friday for Golden Ears Park, and June 12 for Garibaldi Park, including the three trailheads at Garibaldi Park. Those with valid camping reservations do not require a day-use pass to access the park.

As in past years, Pipi7íyekw will also temporarily close to recreational visitors on two occasions — from June 20 until June 27 and from Sept. 8 to Sept. 30 — to provide time and space for the Líl̓wat Nation and N’Quatqua to reconnect with the land in a meaningful way.

The B.C. government says the pass system provides hikers with a more enjoyable experience by reducing congestion on trails, roads and parking areas, while helping conserving the land and ecosystems.

Passes will be available online starting at 7 a.m. at bcparks.ca/reservations/day-use-passes two days before you plan to visit the park.

The daytime passes run until Oct. 25 for Joffre Lakes, Sept. 7 for Golden Ears Park and until Oct. 12 for Garibaldi Park.

Backcountry reservations for Upper Joffre Lake Campground will be available on a three-month rolling window beginning at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, for arrivals beginning June 15. Reservations can be made at camping.bcparks.ca/
