Prior to Tuesday’s minicamp practice, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Daniel Jones met with the local media and discussed his continued return from injury.

During the first week of OTA practices, Jones went through individual drills in practice. Last week, he took another step forward, participating in the 7-on-7 drills.
This week, Jones will continue to take part in the 7-on-7 periods, but he will not be participating in the 11-on-11 drills yet. Although Jones did confirm that he asked if he could.
“I think I’m closer,” Jones said on Tuesday. “I think there’s still work to be done. I wouldn’t say I’m all the way there at this point. I feel good about where I am and where the rehab’s taken me to this point, but there is still work to do. Still gotta make some progress, but I feel like I’m in a good spot.”
While there is no contact at this portion of the offseason, the 11-on-11 drills do pose the risk of a player falling into Jones while he’s in the pocket. In 7-on-7, he doesn’t have to extend plays either.

As Shane Steichen said, the Colts want to be “super smart” with how they continue to handle Jones’ injury.
In this rehab process, Jones is continuing to rebuild the strength in his calf, and different measurements compare where the strength of that calf is compared to the other. Plyometric activities and how Jones looks moving are other benchmarks Jones has pursued in his recovery and that remain on his radar.
During OTAs, Jones said that he would “absolutely” be ready for Week 1, but as he detailed on Tuesday, there is still work to be done before he gets to that point.
“I know he’ll work tirelessly this summer to be ready for training camp,” Steichen said.
