Watch: Robert Irwin’s Mom Terri Irwin Reveals if She Would Compete on Dancing With the Stars
Dancing With the Stars scored a home run with its newest addition to the cast.
After all, the ABC series announced that Jackson Olson from the Savannah Bananas—a Georgia-based baseball team known for their comedy-filled, mid-game performances—will join Maura Higgins and Ciara Miller in the ballroom for season 35.
In the months leading up to his confirmation, fans speculated that DWTS judge Derek Hough hinted at Jackson’s casting after the pair performed together at a Savannah Bananas baseball game in March.
In a video of the performance shared to Instagram, Derek tossed Jackson a mini Mirrorball, prompting one commenter to write, “OMG…Jackson is about to be on DWTS.”
Meanwhile, Jackson—who is dating Pat Sajak‘s daughter Maggie Sajak—has been vocal about wanting to transfer his on-field flare to the ballroom. In a July 2025 interview on the Nicki Marie Unplugged podcast, the 28-year-old said he “would rather be on Dancing With the Stars” over The Bachelor, if given the chance. He also shared he was able to express his interest to executives at ABC at the time.
Since then, he has skirted the topic of his casting, saying during a December appearance on the Ali on the Run podcast, “We’ll see what happens with that.”
Jackson did, however, weigh in on which of the dancing competition’s professional partners he would be interested in working with.

“I would get along with Rylee [Arnold] because I’ve seen her videos and I feel like that would work,” he continued. “But I don’t really have a specific one. Whoever they would give me I’d be really cool with.”
Prior to his upcoming role on Dancing With the Stars, Jackson has discussed his growth from being a background performer to a leading man dancing in front of sold-out stadiums.
“I was never, ever a showman,” he told CT Insider in July. “I never raised my hand in class. I never was the energetic person in a conversation. I was always in the background. And I was like, ‘You know what, I’m changing this.’”
And ever since, the athlete has made it a point to share the mindset that has carried him through all of his success.
“Be you. Keep going. Who cares what people say or what people think?” he shared. “I still do not care what anyone thinks about me, and it’s the most freeing thing I’ve been able to do.”
While waiting to learn who will join Jackson, Maura and Ciara on Dancing With the Stars, read on to find out behind-the-scenes secrets from the show.
