Dak Prescott’s impressive NFC East stat shows why Cowboys season is still alive

Dak Prescott’s impressive NFL history against the NFC East is another reason the Dallas Cowboys should not be counted out of the division race.

Despite a 3-4 record entering Week 8, Dallas remains within striking distance, and Prescott’s dominance against the division could become especially important down the stretch.

Prescott owns a 39-11 record against NFC East opponents in his career, an impressive .780 winning percentage. He has also thrown for 12,672 yards, 98 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in those 50 division games.

That success has continued this season. Dallas lost to the New York Giants in Week 1, but Prescott and the Cowboys responded by beating the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles. The latest victory came Monday night, when Dallas defeated Philadelphia 38-21 behind three touchdown passes from Prescott.

Prescott’s performance against Philadelphia was particularly important because it came after consecutive losses to Tampa Bay and Green Bay. He threw two touchdowns and four interceptions across those two games, but bounced back Monday with three touchdowns and no turnovers.

The NFC East remains wide open, and Dallas has plenty of time to make up ground. The Giants currently lead the division at 4-2-1, while the Cowboys improved to 3-4 with Monday night’s win.

If Dallas can finish the season 3-0 in its remaining divisional games, the Cowboys would put themselves in a much stronger position. With Prescott already having victories over Washington and Philadelphia, another perfect run through the remaining division schedule could make a significant difference in what could be a tight race.

Monday night also provided a reminder of what Dallas can look like when its offense is clicking. Prescott connected with CeeDee Lamb for two touchdowns and George Pickens for another, while the Cowboys rushed for 204 yards. Dallas finished with 416 total yards and did not commit a turnover.

There is still plenty of work to do, but Prescott’s history against the NFC East gives Dallas a legitimate reason to believe the season is far from over. If the Cowboys continue taking care of division opponents, their path toward the NFC East title could become much clearer.
