Two men who were the focus of a police search after an eight-year-old boy was assaulted at a Khalsa Day carnival attraction have been identified.

On April 19, in Surrey, the boy was assaulted inside the Kreepy Kastle, a haunted house attraction, police said. He escaped the two men to reach his family outside, but suffered injuries to his neck that required treatment at hospital.

“The investigation is continuing with the second suspect scheduled to be interviewed shortly,” said Surrey police liaison Ian MacDonald. “From here we plan to submit a report to B.C. Prosecution Service. For now, again thanks to the public, media and social media response, we have tackled the biggest challenge of positively identifying the suspects.”

Surrey PD’s major crime unit and special victims team are spearheading the investigation. The attraction was one of several set up in the parking lot of the Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Sahib as part of this year’s Vaisakhi celebrations.

Police say the carnival’s owner/operator has been fully co-operative, and neither of the two men are believed to be part of the staff.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area of the Kreepy Kastle between 4 and 5 p.m. on April 19, and may have photographs or video of either the interior or exterior of the attraction, to contact them. A man fell from elevated SkyTrain tracks near the Joyce Station on Wednesday, his attempt to flee from police ending with a trip to hospital with serious injuries.

Metro Vancouver Transit Police had responded to a call about a man with a weapon uttering threats near the Joyce SkyTrain Station. When they located him, police say they tried to use less-lethal force during the interaction.

The man fled on the track, but fell to the ground, and was taken into custody before being taken to hospital by paramedics.

911 call results in arrest of alleged slashers

A bystander’s call to 911 helped a woman get medical attention and police catch two alleged assailants at the New Westminster SkyTrains station on Wednesday.

After receiving the call reporting a woman being slashed with a knife, New Westminster Police Department officers arrived on the scene to find a woman suffering a laceration, serious enough that she was transported to hospital by paramedics.

The caller had given a detailed description of the alleged assailants, who had fled prior to the arrival of police, and found two men a short distance away on Columbia Street. The two men split up and ran in different directions, but the two separate foot pursuits ended shortly thereafter with both suspects in custody.
