Crews are responding Thursday afternoon after a barge carrying sand and rock ran aground in North Vancouver.

According to an update from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, the barge had been carrying sand and rock dredged from Burrard Inlet, but did not specify where the dredging was taking place.

“The barge has now been stabilized and secured, with the dredged materials expected to be transferred to another barge shortly,” the update reads. “The barge is not blocking navigation channels or impacting port operations, nor leaking fuel or hydrocarbons.”

It’s unclear when the barge ran aground, though reports say it was first spotted Thursday morning just off the shore of Kings Mill park, near the Northshore Auto Mall.
