Now that North Carolina State has sacked coach Dave Doeren, could it turn to a former star who was sacked 470 times in a wonderful NFL career as its next head football coach?
The buzz after Saturday’s announcement that Doeren had been fired was Philip Rivers could be a leading contender to take the job for next season.

Rivers played college football at North Carolina State and his son Gunner is a commit to the Wolfpack for next season.
“I want to thank Coach Doeren for his service and contributions to NC State, and for always representing the university with pride,” NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a statement released by the school, a day after a 31-28 loss to Stanford dropped the team’s record to 3-4. “I appreciate his leadership during his 14-year tenure and the passion he brought to this role.”
Philip Rivers played for NC State from 2000-03. He threw for 13,484 yards and 95 touchdowns before being selected fourth overall in the NFL draft by the New York Giants.

His rights wound up being shipped to the San Diego Chargers as part of the deal that sent Eli Manning to the Giants.
