The Colorado Buffaloes received some significant news Wednesday night with the release of the initial injury report for their Week 9 game against Kansas State.
The Wildcats, who have dealt with several quarterback injuries, will be without their starter, Avery Johnson, who was ruled out Wednesday. His backup, Jacob Knuth, who started last week, is listed as doubtful, leaving the Wildcats with redshirt sophomore and Erie, Colorado native Blake Barnett as the next man up. Barnett is dealing with injuries himself but isn’t listed on the initial injury report.

Sophomore Dillon Duff is the only other quarterback on Kansas State’s roster, but he’s also dealing with injuries. Johnson and Knuth are the only two players listed on Kansas State’s initial report.
Colorado’s injury report has five Buffs listed out, including wide receiver Quentin Gibson, who has been CU’s kick returner for most of the season. Running back Micah Welch is out for the second straight week with a hand injury, and wide receiver Danny Scudero has missed six of the Buffs’ seven games.
Perhaps the most interesting news from the injury report is that former starting quarterback Julian Lewis, demoted to third string, is listed as doubtful. Since Lewis has not played since being benched against Baylor on Sept. 26, the injury either happened in practice or could be deeper, tied to Lewis’ relationship with the program.
