Watch: Chris Evans Reveals Transformation in Heart-Pounding Avengers: Doomsday Trailer
Chris Evans is returning to the MCU with a brand new look.
After it was revealed that his character Steve Rogers would make a comeback in Avengers Doomsday, fans have been waiting for more intel on what that return would look like. Now, they have an answer.
Indeed, the latest trailer for Avengers Doomsday released on July 20 shows Evans’ latest transformation, which unveils Rogers’ new longer hairdo—a departure from his usual military crew cut.
Rogers isn’t the only OG returning to save the world, as the trailer heavily features Thor (Chris Hemsworth), who states, “We’re going to need a miracle.”
Despite passing on the Captain America shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson after the events of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Rogers appears to come assist in this latest battle, joining his fellow Avengers and the new heroes who’ve taken on the mantle from the original crew.
But even Thor is shocked by Rogers’ reappearance, noting “It’s not possible.”
Yet it is indeed possible despite the 2019 film seeing the former World War II hero decide to remain in the past to live his life with one-time love Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). After all, Rogers proves he is not an imposter as he is able to wield Thor’s famous hammer—which he does with a knowing smirk.
And while news of Evans’ return has been public for months, the Captain America star had repeatedly denied being involved with Avengers Doomsday before revealing his homecoming.
“I’ve just stopped responding to it,” the 45-year-old told Esquire in January 2025. “Yeah, no—happily retired!”

Still, the Knives Out actor—who welcomed baby girl Almawith wife Alba Baptista last October—had been clear that he was open to returning to his iconic Marvel role.
“I’ll never say never, just because it was such a wonderful experience,” he told GQ in 2023. “But I’m also very precious with it. It’s something that I am very proud of. And like I said, sometimes I can’t believe it even happened.”
