The Kansas City Chiefs have lost two straight games, including last Sunday’s 28-24 defeat to the Denver Broncos. However, Emmett Johnson emerged as a bright spot in Week 9, and the team singled him out on social media.

The rookie running back finished with one rushing attempt on 15 yards but shined as a receiver. He led the corps with five receptions on five targets for 128 yards and one touchdown. Patrick Mahomes showed a lot of trust in the 23-year-old, further strengthening their on-field chemistry. The star quarterback completed 30-of-41 passes for 321 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Kansas City had a chance to extend its lead to six points late in the fourth quarter. Head coach Andy Reid sent the field-goal unit for a Harrison Butker 54-yard attempt. He missed wide right, giving the Broncos good field position. The home team took advantage of it by scoring a touchdown in only 35 seconds.

Kansas City featured Johnson in its Stat of the Week post on Instagram. The team added a graphic of him with an action shot as the front layer.

“A standout performance from our rookie running back,” the Chiefs wrote.

The franchise selected him at the No. 161st overall pick in the fifth round this year. Johnson starred for the Nebraska Cornhuskers from 2022 to 2025, receiving several honors in his final year with the program. He earned first-team All-American, Big Ten Running Back of the Year and first-team All-Big Ten honors.

Johnson and Co. will return to action on Sunday. They will host the New York Jets at Arrowhead Stadium looking to snap their losing skid. The visiting team is also struggling, losing three straight games, giving the Chiefs a strong chance to get back to their winning ways.
