Sony Pictures Entertainment has just released the trailer for the Vancouver-shot film The Social Reckoning.

Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the film is described as a “companion piece” to Sorkin’s Academy Award-winning 2010 film The Social Network.

The official synopsis reads: “Sorkin’s original screenplay is based on the events that gave rise to the Wall Street Journal’s shocking exposé The Facebook Files. The film is inspired by the true story of how Frances Haugen (Mikey Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (Jeremy Allen White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.”

Other cast members for the film, set to hit theatres Oct. 9, include Wunmi Mosaku, Betty Gilpin, Billy Magnussen, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong.

In the new trailer, Haugen meets with Horwitz in a park and tells him she wants to “help Facebook, not hurt it,” which prompts Horwitz to say: “you sent me a message. What would you like to talk about?” From there, the action shifts to a court where Strong as Zuckerberg is asked to name his occupation which he responds with, “I’m a professional defendant.”

The film was shot in Vancouver last fall, with local sites including the Vancouver Art Gallery standing in for the U.S. Capital and the beach at English Bay turning into a tropical-style beach bar.
