Watch: Charlize Theron Teases Sweet Mother’s Day Plans With Her 2 Daughters
Charlize Theron‘s motherhood journey is the tops.
In fact, the Oscar winner bonded with her youngest daughter August, 11, over rock climbing while training for her new action movie Apex, bringing the tween along to the gym during her workout sessions with professional climber Beth Rodden.
There, the “adventurous” August would go climbing with Beth’s 10-year-old son.
“She’s a bit of a daredevil,” Charlize exclusively told E! News at the New York City premiere of Apex on April 22. “Beth and I would be working on one side, and whenever I got tired, I would just look over and the two of them were just going up these walls.”
And for the 50-year-old, it was “really good for me to see that.”
“Sometimes, as an adult, you get so caught up in the mechanics of it,” Charlize continued. “And then you just look over and these kids who know nothing, they’re just like, ‘Gotta get to the top.'”
It was just the motivation she needed to push herself.
“And you’re like, ‘OK, that’s all I have to do. Just get to the top,'” Charlize added. “It was fun to share that with her.”
So, is Charlize—who is also mom to 14-year-old daughter Jackson—looking forward to another daring adventure with her kids on Mother’s Day? Not quite.
“They better bring me tea or something in bed,” the Atomic Blonde actress quipped. “Hint, hint.”
Despite her hopes for a low-key Mother’s Day celebration, Charlize is generally all for action—especially in movie form.

“Our physical bodies can say a lot,” she shared. “We as actors sometimes use words as a crutch and when you strip all of that away. it’s a really, really good exercise for actors to really understand that mind and body has to be connected.”
But that’s not to say the Old Guard star is “sitting around waiting” for action movie parts.
“It’s actually the opposite,” she added. “I like being an actor that can diversify, but this was, to me, such a bad ass movie.”
Apex, also starring Taron Egerton, premieres globally on Netflix April 24.
