As the recent Boston Celtics success will be attached to Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown as a tandem, the latter’s exit to the Philadelphia 76ers has led to speculation regarding tension between the two players. With some believing there is beef between the former Celtics teammates, head coach Joe Mazzulla would speak on the situation and what he focuses on.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Mazzulla would talk about the comments going back and forth between them, with Brown saying there is no beef, but there is “lamb chops and some gravy.” For Mazzulla, he’s more impressed by the success the two players had with one another for the past decade, which included winning an NBA title in 2024.
“I didn’t see exactly [what] happened, but those two guys, they were together for 10 years, and they had great, great moments together. And at the end of the day, nobody is perfect. We all can be better, we all did great things, we all did things that we want to be better at,” Mazzulla said, via Zack Cox.

“So I think it’s more just focusing on the greatness that those two were able to achieve and the fact that they’re both great people,” Mazzulla continued. “They’re different in how they play the game, they’re different in how they handle things, they’re just — they’re different. It doesn’t mean that it’s good or bad. They’re just different. So you focus on the high character.”

Mazzulla would continue by saying that the Celtics are focused on Tatum since he’s on the team, but emphasizes how “grateful” the team is for Brown and what he has done with the franchise in the past.
“You never forget the gratitude and the perspective of a former Celtic who has left this place in a better place. You can’t forget that,” Mazzulla said. “But what we focus on now is Jayson. Jayson is our best player. Jayson is our highest-character guy.”
There’s no denying that fans are excited for the first regular-season matchup between Boston and Philadelphia on Nov. 10.
