    Watch: Scooter Braun Hints at Future With Justin Bieber After $31.5 Million Agreement

    Carly Rae Jepsen didn’t think parting ways with longtime manager Scooter Braun was all that crazy.

    In fact, the “Call Me Maybe” singer has no bad blood with the music executive, who she first signed with in 2011 after gaining the attention of his then-client Justin Bieber.

    “I knew that I was on a different journey than he understood,” Jepsen told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Sept. 8. “I wanted to do something a little bit less mainstream, and I liked what he had offered, but I didn’t necessarily think it was what I wanted anymore.”

    She continued, “I felt like it was just going to be a little bit easier to shake hands, walk away and go let my freak flag fly, so to speak.”

    Besides, the 40-year-old knew her next chapter was in good hands. As Jepsen cheekily admitted, “I took one of his employees with me.”

    And these days, Jepsen is “happier than I’ve ever been.”

    “I’ve had some good experiences with people, and I’ve had hard ones too,” she shared. “It’s taken a second to figure out the right team for my management.”

    Scooter Braun Reveals Where He and Justin Bieber Stand Now Amid Rumored Fallout

    E! News has reached out to Braun’s rep for comment but hasn’t heard back.

    Jepsen’s rep first told the Associated Press back in 2023 that the Canadian Idol alum had cut ties with Braun professionally, though a reason wasn’t specified.

    At the time, Braun was facing fallout rumors with Bieber, who he discovered and signed during the early aughts. The two ultimately struck a financial deal in 2025, with Bieber, 32, agreeing to give $31.5 million to his former manager, 45, for show cancellations and unpaid commission.

    And while Braun has retired from artist management altogether, he believes his story with Bieber is “not done.”

    “That’s what happens with relationships like that,” Braun said in a 2025 episode of the Question Everything podcast. “They ebb and they flow. They go up and down. Sometimes, they go in one direction and sometimes they go another, but you always keep your heart open to the fact that that’s family and you have each other’s back in the end.”

    Explaining how Bieber was “ready to really control his own destiny” when they went their separate ways, Braun added that he has no ill will toward the “Baby” singer.

    “I respect completely that he is his own man now and he wants to build his career moving forward the way he sees fit and he should,” he shared. “The same way I respect the fact that I want to build my life a certain way moving forward.”
