Arizona Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur made a heartfelt gesture Friday, honoring franchise legend Pat Tillman on what would have been his 50th birthday. LaFleur, who recently made a major quarterback change involving Gardner Minshew, arrived at his media availability wearing a shirt featuring the late safety.

The maroon shirt featured an image of Tillman wearing his No. 40 Cardinals jersey, offering a simple but meaningful tribute photo to one of the organization’s most respected figures.

Cardinals reporter Mark Dalton shared a photo of LaFleur’s tribute, highlighting the coach’s decision to commemorate Tillman’s milestone birthday.

Tillman, born November 6, 1976, played college football at Arizona State before joining the Cardinals in 1998. He spent four seasons with Arizona, establishing himself as a hard-hitting safety and earning widespread admiration for his dedication.

Following the September 11 attacks, Tillman made the extraordinary decision to leave professional football and enlist in the United States Army alongside his brother Kevin.

He served as an Army Ranger before passing away in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004, at just 27 years old.

His legacy remains deeply connected to the Cardinals, who retired his No. 40 jersey and erected a statue outside State Farm Stadium in his honor.

The tribute came as LaFleur prepared Arizona for its upcoming matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, with the Cardinals navigating significant roster changes after Jacoby Brissett’s departure to the Baltimore Ravens.

Despite the demands of preparing for another divisional contest, LaFleur took time to recognize a figure whose influence extends well beyond football.
